Happy Friday everyone.
I felt compelled to send this around the PMA as we all know this language or way of booking actors is now commonplace. This week I presented the casting director with a bona fide offer of work across pencilled dates that the production said they couldn’t work around and then was told in no uncertain terms that they would neither nominate the penciled dates, nor release my client to do the job, despite it being in the contract because they weren’t ready yet.
Personally speaking I do not like this method of booking but, especially in times of Covid, like many of you, I guess I felt that it was helpful to line producers and AD’s to allow some element of flexibility. Now it’s an excuse for bad scheduling but when productions start reneging on one of the principles of this method and refusing to nominate I feel it sets an incredibly dangerous precedent.
I’ve had to swallow this one and whilst I know various discussions are ongoing about this I would be interested to hear if from any agents who have had a similar experience.
Best,
Tom
