Assistant to Agent (Theatre, Film and Television)

Curtis Brown is one of the world’s leading literary and talent agencies, representing actors, presenters, authors, playwrights, film and television writers and directors and theatre directors.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Theatre, Film and Television (TFTV) department for an Assistant one of our Senior Agents. This role involves working alongside an experienced Assistant to deliver exceptional client care and systems administration to maximise success for the Agent’s list of clients, support the development of the Agent’s Office, and build loyalty to Curtis Brown.

We are looking for a full-time assistant with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; exceptional organisational skills; a keen eye for detail and accuracy; resilience and adaptability; and an enthusiasm for film, theatre and television. Whilst this role is collaborative in its nature and will involve working closely with the Agent and other Assistant, there is also regular level of independent working, and so our ideal candidate will have confidence using their initiative and problem-solving autonomously.
Previous experience working as an assistant in a Literary or Talent Agency is required, or in a supporting role in an agency for a television/film development.

Talent Assistant

42 is a fully integrated management and production company, producing film, television and content, representing actors, writers, directors, comedians, presenters, producers, casting directors and media book rights; with offices in London and Los Angeles.

In this busy administrative role, you will rely on your excellent organisational skills and your ability to work well under pressure to support a talent manager who represents actors and other creatives across film, television, and theatre.

Previous experience in a talent agency or similar, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, a “can-do” attitude and excellent communication are essential.

Hours: 9:30 – 6:30, Monday – Friday in the office

Main Responsibilities:

1. Full administrative support to the talent manager in the day to day running of the office and developing clients’ careers.
2. Responding to queries for and on behalf of clients, and assisting clients, as required.
3. Answering, handling and fielding calls to the department, talking with clients and responding on behalf of the manager when required.
4. First point of contact for Casting Directors and Producers and keeping across forthcoming projects and client availability.
5. Script reading and providing coverage.
6. Representing 42 at industry events, supporting clients and building industry relationships.
7. Prepare manager’s expenses.
8. General administrative support and office responsibilities including diary management, scheduling appointments, filing and setting up conference calls.
9. Handling and chasing contracts, working with our accounts dept ensuring payments are made promptly.

Core Skills and Experience:

1. A minimum of 2 years previous experience working as a talent agent’s assistant is essential as well as a desire to progress through the industry
2. Experience in a client facing role.
3. Highly organised, with attention to detail and ability to use initiative. Calm under pressure
4. Ability to multitask and prioritise workload
5. Enthusiastic and dedicated with an eye for detail
6. Proficient with Apple Macs, Word and Excel

THE ROLE:
- First point of call for all incoming casting/advert/voiceover enquiries for Avalon Management clients.
- Suggest clients in response to Spotlight casting breakdowns and follow up by phone with casting directors to sell in clients.
- Liaising between clients and casting directors to organise all aspects of client castings including time, date, location, who they are meeting, sending through scripts and role details/commercial breakdowns.
- If casting is successful, then liaising with client’s manager and the casting director to begin negotiating availability and contract terms.
- Negotiating the deal and contract either with the Casting Director (at CAN stage) or Production company (at contract stage).
- Liaising with Management assistants to pass across logistics, invoicing and contract admin.
- Regular script reading.
- Voiceovers: Negotiating the deal as above.
- Filming self-tapes with clients in the office. Editing them and sending them over to the Casting Director.
– Admin/set-up for department
- To work with assistants to monitor and update Spotlight biogs and client entries.
- Setting up headshot sessions for clients. Selecting the best shots.
- Booking younger clients into Casting Workshops.
- To liaise with managers about showreels, voicereels and acting biogs for all clients.
- Keeping a record of every casting each client goes in for and recording which Casting Directors they have already seen.
- To maintain and update contacts in casting companies.
- Attending screenings of new shows/films/plays with clients.
- Attending client’s shows with Casting Directors.
- Maintaining records of all AV checks and jobs booked.
– Building the department.
- Develop relationships with casting directors and producers.
- Build relationships with advertising agencies who look after adverts and voiceovers.
- Develop a more proactive approach to the voiceover area of the business.
- Guiding younger clients on the best way to approach castings and how to prepare.

- Demonstrable experience of casting work, preferably with comedy talent.
- Contacts/awareness of who the key people are within the acting/casting world.

Head of Live Comedy

United Agents Ltd (UA) is one of London’s leading talent agencies encompassing the worlds of film, TV, books, theatre and comedy. We are currently recruiting a full-time Head of Live Comedy.

Job Description

– As the Head of Live at the leading talent agency in Europe you will work closely with the Live Producer and the agents within the United Agents Comedy Department to build upon and expand our existing live output.
– You will predominantly be responsible for all aspects of the live comedy bookings in our artists’ busy diaries, in line with their personal and company-led progression.
– This includes but is not limited to Edinburgh Fringe Festival shows, other Festivals, regional touring and day to day gig booking.
– You will also handle work in progresses, tour show warmups and support slots and book in new material / trial spots where necessary.
– You will take a hands-on role with producing live shows depending on need
– You will need to liaise with venue managers and promoters, tour managers, other talent agencies, and be the first port of call for any live enquiries – therefore good industry contacts and detailed knowledge of the live comedy circuit is required.
– Daily tasks will include proactively sourcing live work for clients as well as handling incoming enquiries, negotiating fees, managing the busy live diaries of our artists as well as overseeing invoicing with the Live Producer.
– In addition, you will be required to attend comedy shows, support the acts at gigs and attend industry events outside of the standard working hours.
– You will organise industry-facing events, such as our bi-yearly comedy showcase, with the comedy agents.
– You will also be heavily involved at and with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, helping to facilitate the smooth running of clients’ show working closely with the Live Producer
– You should be confident in your ability to speak to a myriad of contacts and personality types, whilst maintaining good working relationships with all our artists and having a great eye for opportunities.

Key responsibilities

– Proactively sourcing live opportunities for all United comedy clients – from the biggest names to the newbies.
– Booking gigs, tours, Edinburgh Festival shows, Festival spots, international gigs and shows.

– Liaising with promoters, venue managers, tour managers, international bookers, producers to ensure all diary entries have the correct information.

Agency Assistant

We are a long-established small Boutique Agency which looks after Actors and Heads of Department (many of whom are Bafta winners and Emmy nominated working in HETV). We are currently recruiting for an Agency Assistant to work mainly with our acting clients, primarily in the fields of theatre and commercials, with the ability to run the commercials side once fully trained.

This is a full time job working in our Golden Square office. Responsibilities include:

– Being first point of contact; liaising with clients, casting directors and other industry professionals
– giving clients audition information and assisting with making client suggestions for projects
– assisting clients with self-tapes and uploading audition material, and editing showreels
– keeping client profiles, agency website and Twitter up to date
– tracking contracts and invoices and becoming familiar with industry contracts
– some general admin – inc ordering office supplies etc

We are looking for someone with preferably two years’ experience in the creative industries, or at least one year in a talent agency or casting company.

You will need:
– strong organisational skills
– great computer skills – proficient with MS Office and basic editing skills
– a good eye for detail for filling in the database and portals
– ability to work on own initiative – there’s plenty of scope for taking more responsibility
– the flexibility to help out if someone else is away
